Center Director

We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and experienced Center Director to lead our Playgroup Programs located in Valatie and Hudson, NY. This leadership position is ideal for someone with a strong background in early childhood education, a deep commitment to play-based learning, and a heart for community engagement.

The Center Director will report directly to the Executive Director and oversee day-to-day operations of our Playgroups, curriculum development, staff supervision, and community partnership coordination.

About the Role: Center Director (Part-Time, $20/hour)
The Family Resource Centers of Columbia County is seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and organized Center Director to lead our Playgroup Programs in Valatie and Hudson, NY. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with young children, supporting caregivers, and building community connections through hands-on, play-based learning.

The Center Director will report to the Executive Director and manage the day-to-day operations of the Playgroups, including staff coordination, activity leadership, and community engagement. This is a great opportunity for someone with early childhood experience who is looking to grow their leadership skills in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

📍 Playgroup Locations & Schedule (Resumes September 2025):
Valatie Playgroup
📅 Mondays & Wednesdays | 🕙 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Martin H. Glynn Municipal Building, 3211 Church St, Valatie, NY 12184

Hudson Playgroup
📅 Tuesdays & Thursdays | 🕤 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
📍 The Hudson Youth Center, 18 South 3rd Street, Hudson, NY 12534

Each Playgroup includes:

  • Free play

  • Snack time

  • Circle time

  • Gross motor play

  • Seasonal field trips

  • Special guest programming (coordinated by the Center Director)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of Playgroup sessions

  • Prepare and implement weekly activities and lessons using a provided curriculum

  • Supervise and support Playgroup staff, volunteers, and interns

  • Track attendance and program data for evaluation and grant reporting

  • Schedule and host special guests (e.g., music, art, or nature educators)

  • Plan and lead seasonal field trips for Playgroup families

  • Participate in a weekly check-in with the Executive Director

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and caregivers

  • Share program highlights and updates with families and community via FRC social media

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working with young children and/or families in an educational or community setting

  • Familiarity with child development and early learning (ages 0–5)

  • Experience working with or supervising a small team is a plus

  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills

  • Culturally competent with a demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)

  • Ability to foster strong relationships with families and community partners

  • Knowledge of Columbia County communities is a bonus

Hours & Compensation

  • Part-Time: Approximately 14 hours/week

  • Pay: $20/hour

Includes Playgroup sessions, stakeholder communication, setup/cleanup time, and weekly meetings
